Blizzard: 2011

Schools around here close on a whim. What?! White flakes falling from the sky!?!? No. No this cannot be happening to us. No. What?! What is that you say!? OVER A FOOT?!!?!?!?!?  We cannot fathom this! We must shut things down..WE MUST CLOSE DOWN THE CITY. Of course this is not my actual response to this snow fall. I have seen things over the past few days that makes me giggle. The main thing I do not understand is the complete "freak out" that is happening at the moment. 1. People are filling up their cars with Gas. Question: Why?  Are you planning to drive long distances in this Blizzard:2011? I think not. Are they planning to siphon gas in your tank for possible generator gas? 2. The bread shelf is empty. Question: Are you planning on PBJs holding you over? Why is it that staples are "Get Bread, Milk and Eggs". I am sorry, but when I think that I am going to be in my house without power, the last thing I think is "hmm..I could really use some toast and sc...

End of the First Week

It is over. Now we know how the routine will "somewhat" look like. Keep the prayers-a-comin'... Friday was a tough one for Wes. During the morning, the class was WORKED OUT for having a mess up on so forms. Wes knew this would come sometime, though he did not expect it on Day Five. Much to his dismay (and some nasty chigger bites on his wrists) he found himself bear crawling, crab walking, running, six-inch lift holding, holding in push-up position for about two hours straight. Then when he thought it was over - came classroom work. Which consisted of learning about, seeing photos and hearing stories of child abuse, neglect and homicide. I didn't ask anymore questions.  This weekend was a good break. We had a good time with friends, spent some time with each other, and heard a great message at church. Wes had a few extra things added to his list of "to-dos" tonight, but overall he's in a good mood. He is also now a part of a prayer group on Monday morn...

Gross

I knew that when Wes got into the Academy, he'd love it. I knew this because he loves a good challenge physically and it would be something that he would  never get bored doing. Little did I know that he would enjoy hearing about and looking at pictures of crash scenes and other unmentionable sights that they show him in class. He comes home and that is what I have had to hear about for the past two days. So far, no bad nightmares. But I can just feel one coming on. The examples are far too disgusting to post on this pretty blog. I am sure that he will see horrible things while on duty this fall, and I suppose I better just lay down the law right now of not telling me anything about it. Wes, obviously OK with gross things. Here he is featured in a pie-eating contest for church. Yucky. I also find that this new schedule for both of us is EXHAUSTING. We are in bed no later than 9:30, maybe 10:00. I am just as tired as he is. We both get up around 5:20, I head to the gym and then...

In the Family

Please allow a sidenote from today's Academy antics... My Great-Grandfather was a Police Officer. Walter Johnson (my mother's father's father) was a Police Officer, and a Motor-Cop at that, in Spokane, Washington. Walter later became a detective and many of his stories are featured in 1940s/1950s detective magazines. His son, Sydney, was also a Police Officer. My Grandfather entered WWII when he was 17 and when he returned, he followed in the footsteps of his father and became a Police Officer as well. Did I ever think I would marry a man who wanted to become a Police Officer? Nope. Not at all. Yet, God had different plans for me. I should have known that this was to be, though. I always loved looking at pictures of my Grandfather in his Police uniform and hearing all of his stories about his Police days. He always said "I never once regretted going to work and I always woke up the next day excited to go back". Now that this adventure has started, I think abou...

Day Two. Or as my husband refers to it as: INTENSE

As I type this, my husband is shining his boots. When he left this morning, the toe of his boots were super shiny. I could actually see myself in them!! He had worked really hard on them. When he returned today, all I could see was the faint resemblance of a line where the shiny toe was separated from the rest of the boot. Scuff marks, dirt and (I am sure) sweat covered the rest. Poor kid. Along with all this extra "work" at home, he had quite the day.  The first day was in the classroom getting lectured on drug usage, history of TPD, hearing stories from past Chiefs om what it was like back in the day..etc.  This day was different. Much different. My alarm went off at 0345 this morning (yes, military time, folks...get used to that). If any of you know my husband, he has never been alive that time, unless he never went to sleep in the first place. After a kiss goodbye while wearing his pinstripe suit at 0500, I wouldn't see or talk to him until 1700.  The rest was a b...

Academy: Day 1

My wonderful husband started the Police Academy yesterday. Dressed in his best suit, he left the house at 7:00 a.m. to make it to North Tulsa for his very first day. In the month following that, however, there was much planning and preparation for this day. Wes studied 10-codes, 100 blocks and ran until he couldn't run anymore. Poor dear couldn't even remember his combination to his gym locker. I knew this was something he wanted to accomplish, so I did my best to stay out of his way.  I sometimes did not do a very good job, though. I am a full-time teacher so anything that needs to be done at home, gets done last. And since it is my first year teaching...SIGH!!  I feel like I do this job 24/7. Great things will come with this, though.  For example, Wes actually got asked to do an interview on our local Fox23 News! Here is the link to watch this video, if it no longer works, then there will be a caveman version of it on here later. Also, below is the actual article fr...
