Chapter Two
...And now back to our regular programming.
Finally. Finally it is over. Finally I can have a peace of mind knowing that he is an OFFICIAL Police Officer. What an amazing accomplishment for Wes. I am so proud of him for getting through what he did.
This past week, Wes' mom, step-dad, dad, sister and brother-in-law came out to see his graduation. If it weren't for previous engagements, my family would have been here too...but I know they were cheering him on from Oregon and Indiana! We are both so blessed to have family that care abotu is and continue to pray for us. I love it.
The graduation ceremony was nothing I'll ever forget. It was simply amazing. As you walked into the gym, you entered the back of rows and rows of chairs with a middle aisle. At the back of the gym stood Police Officers and two Police motorcycles positioned at each end of the aisle. Since we got their early, we were positioned in a prime row (3!) and ready for the procession.
As 11:00 rolled around, the lights were dimmed and the class of 2011 was introduced. At this point, a bagpiper led the class down the center aisle in a grand entrance! It gave me chills as I felt the bagpipe in my chest. Wesley was first and he looked so regal; so stately. I was enamored by all of the pressed uniforms, shined boots and the rhythmic marching of their boots. I loved that you could look in Wesley's face and see it so serious, yet when you looked in his eyes he was jumping for excitement.
Soon after speeches, videos, laughter and tears, I was able to pin his badge on him for the first time. What an overwhelming moment for me. I knew people were congratulating eachother, squeezing around to take pictures, walking in front of flashes, patting each other on the back and passing the new graduates around to each other for a picture opportunity. But in the middle of all the commotion, there we were. Wes and I stood together and time seemed to stand still around us. It was like it was just me and him, in a time that signified all of his hard work, my patience and our life getting a little more interesting.
I'll never forget that moment.
